Services Available at GMH
Physical Therapy
The Physical Therapy Department offers services to patients in acute care, swing bed, and on an out patient basis. A wide variety of services are offered to patients for back and neck pain, osteoarthritis conditions, muscle sprains and strains, shoulder and knee injuries, neurological disorders, diabetics complications, gait disturbances, nerve injuries, generalized weakness and deconditioning, with outreach programs in Home Health and sports injuries and screening. Garrison Memorial Hospital has three physical therapists on staff who are ready and able to meet all your physical therapy needs. Our therapists are available Monday through Friday.
Swing Bed
Garrison Memorial Hospital’s Swing Bed unit, located on the 2nd floor, is a certified program of extended care services for persons not yet able to care for themselves, but who no longer need acute hospital services. It may be considered as an alternative to nursing home placement. Services ranges from emphasis on restoring the resident’s independence to providing care and comfort at the end stages of life.
Respite Care
Respite Care is a short-term placement, overnight to 2 weeks, of an individual in our facility for the purpose of providing temporary relief for their care giver. The Respite Care patient should provide his or her own clothing, medications and personal supplies. Our facility will provide meals and snacks, assistance with personal cares, medication administration and recreational activities.
Adult Day Care
Adult day care is a program where participants come to our facility on a daytime basis and return to their home for the night. It allows their caregiver the opportunity to pursue daytime activities and releases some of the responsibility of providing care at home. Adult Day Care is offered Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Meals, activities, medication administration, assistance with cares and rest periods are provided in the program.
Nursing Facility
The Nursing Facility is a 28-bed unit located on the 3rd floor of the hospital. It provides a home like atmosphere for people who are no longer able to live independently. Professional care is provided around the clock with a Physical/Restorative Therapy Program available Monday through Friday. A wide variety of activities are offered which includes religious services for the residents.
Radiology Services
Garrison Memorial Hospital offers 24-hour diagnostic services with a radiologic technologist on call. A radiologist is on site one day biweekly for fluoroscopy exams and ultrasounds are available three days a week. An on site CT scanner makes CT scans available 7 days a week. MRI’s are performed biweekly and Bone Densitometry is performed on a weekly basis. Mammograms are available five days a week with walk-ins welcomed.
Cardiac Rehab
Garrison Memorial Hospital offers Cardiac Rehabilitation to patients with heart related problems (Phase II), which is covered by Medicare and most insurance companies. Phase III of cardiac rehab is a program in which anyone can exercise as long as you have a doctors order. Our program is usually Monday, Wednesday, and Friday by appointment. We use a combination of weights, treadmill, stationary bike and an arm pulley system. The benefits of cardiac rehab include blood pressure checks before and after exercise and monitoring of the heart.
24 Hour Emergency Services
Garrison Memorial Hospital staffs and supplies a 24-hour emergency room, 7 days a week. Registered Nurses with training and certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Trauma Nursing Care Course, and Pediatric Advance Life Support are on duty to meet patients and initiate emergency treatments. A physician, lab technician, and radiology technician are also on call and available 24 hours a day for the provision of diagnostic testing, evaluation, and medical treatment.
Garrison Family Clinic
The Garrison Family Clinic employs two physicians and two physician assistants, all specializing in family health. The clinic offers a wide scope of services including: Pre and Post-Operative care; Prenatal Care; Sport Physicals; Women’s and Men’s Health; general Physicals, Insurance Exams; Minor procedures and Children’s Health Care. The clinic has a host of specialty doctors who regularly see patients at the clinic. The specialties include Neurology, Orthopedic Surgery, Psychology, Cardiology, Gynecology, Pulmonology, Podiatry and General Surgery.
Laboratory
The laboratory department at Garrison Memorial Hospital offers a wide test menu of in-house laboratory testing. Reference laboratory services have been established to aid in providing extensive laboratory testing capabilities.
BT WAN
Garrison Memorial Hospital linked with St. Alexius Medical Center and many other rural facilities has formed the BTWAN System. The BTWAN System is an effective way to deliver high quality health care services when the access of specialty services is unmet.
